Chestnuts
There are many varieties cultivated in Europe. However, it is generalized as common European chestnut, according to the pattern to differentiate them from the Chinese chestnut, the Japanese chestnut and the American.
At Jerte Valley, the main variety is known as De Pablo. It is a traditional crop, mountain, with leafy trees.
The harvesting is done manually because of the conditions of the land that makes impossible the use of machinery. Our season starts at the beginning of October and It lasts until the end of November.
The chestnut harvested in the green and humid places of Jerte Valley. It has a shiny skin, rounded and brown.
